everywhere but at day's end it was Beulah's Gabrielle Bui and
the perfect choice John BARRRRRRR who won the day at the No Tears
East. Cedar hosted a smashing event chaired by the Crowleys and
Garlies. Local experts Dave Schmidt and Ed Eckert provided the
knowledge of that shifty, troublesome Cedar while Suzi Reese and
Candace Porter provided the "fluff" to use a Reese term.
The junior fleet completed four races to the seniors' three due
to lulls, 90 degree shifts - simply a real challenge to the RC
to make this somewhat fair winds and yet not so serious.
Senior fleet was won by Beulah's Gabrielle Bui who won on a tie
breaker with Nagawicka's Ethan Heinze. Elle's 1-1 in the morning
broke the tie. Results will be posted later this afternoon so
check the ILYA website. Beulah's Sarah Kubicek won the third race
for her announced first race win ever. That entitles her parents
to a "First Race Party" on Beulah. The fleet was 32
in number on the water and strengthened by participation by Sheridan
Shores (brought here by a UW-Madison sailing team member) and
South Shore who comes for its third year of participation. North
Lake's Travis Theisen crewed on an X at WYA and returned here
for 4th. Beulah's Eric Zettlemoyer talked his way around the course
to the delight of the RC.
The junior course had an early leader in Alex Keck (Peter's son)
who had a 1-1 at lunch. He ended up just nipping cousin Austin
(Dave's son) who had a sister over in the senior fleet. With cousins
and friends competing at this early age, is it any wonder our
X fleets are so healthy. But by the end, Beulah's John Barr beat
fellow Beulah sailors Erin Sullivan and Mary Berg to take the
trophy. Pewaukee was present in full complement with in the editor's
opinion the best dressed pink girls at the regatta. Volleyball,
word searches, coloring tasks, pirate chests and candy -- it was
all a child's day of marvelous enjoyment of sailing.
Cedar is to complimented again for an exceptional event. Commodore
Trester can be proud of his club's fourth of five regattas this
year.
